The ministry has stated that we do not observe the New Moons. This raises a crucial question: How can we know when Holy Days occur without knowing when a month begins? God designed the sun and moon to be our timekeepers. The sun determines the length of day, while the moon dictates the length of a month and a year. Shouldn't we follow His command to worship during the New Moons?

Biblical Foundations for New Moon Observance

The Bible provides clear instructions regarding the observance of New Moons. Here are some key verses that highlight their significance:

Ezekiel 46:3

"Likewise, the people of the land shall worship at the door of this gate before the LORD in the sabbaths and in the new moons."

1 Chronicles 23:31

"And to offer all burnt sacrifices unto the LORD in the sabbaths, in the new moons, and on the set feasts, by number, according to the order commanded unto them, continually before the LORD."

2 Chronicles 2:4

"Behold, I build a house to the name of the LORD my God, to dedicate it to Him, and to burn before Him sweet incense, and for the continual shewbread, and for the burnt offerings morning and evening, on the sabbaths, and on the new moons, and on the solemn feasts of the LORD our God. This is an ordinance forever to Israel."

2 Chronicles 31:3

"He appointed also the king's portion of his substance for the burnt offerings, to wit, for the morning and evening burnt offerings, and the burnt offerings for the sabbaths, and for the new moons, and for the set feasts, as it is written in the law of the LORD."

These verses indicate that worship during New Moons is not merely a suggestion but a command. The practice of offering sacrifices on New Moons, Sabbaths, and Holy Days is deeply rooted in biblical tradition.

The Sacrificial System and Its Relevance

Notice the animal sacrifices associated with New Moons, Sabbaths, and Holy Days. Here is a summary of the offerings:

  • Continual Burnt Offerings: 2 lambs of the first year, one in the morning and one in the evening (Numbers 28:3-4).

  • Sabbaths: 2 lambs of the first year, in addition to the continual burnt offerings (Numbers 28:9-10).

  • New Moons: 2 young bullocks, 1 ram, and 7 lambs (Numbers 28:11-14).

  • Sin Offering: A kid of the goat, alongside the continual offering (Numbers 28:15).

  • 1st Day of Unleavened Bread: 2 bullocks, 1 ram, and 7 lambs for 7 days, in addition to the continual offering (Numbers 28:17-25).

  • Pentecost: 2 young bullocks, 1 ram, and 7 lambs, plus 1 kid of the goat, alongside the continual offering (Numbers 28:26-31).

  • Trumpets: 1 bullock, 1 ram, 7 lambs, and 1 kid of the goat, besides the New Moon and the continual offering (Numbers 29:1-6).

  • Atonement: 1 bullock, 1 ram, 7 lambs, and 1 kid of the goat, alongside the sin offering and the continual offering (Numbers 29:7-11).

  • Feast of Tabernacles: Various offerings for each day, culminating in a significant number of sacrifices on the final day (Numbers 29:12-38).

These offerings were not arbitrary. They were prescribed by God to ensure that worship remained focused and meaningful.

The Role of New Moons in Our Lives

Observing New Moons can deepen our spiritual lives. It allows us to align ourselves with God's timing. When we acknowledge the New Moons, we recognize the rhythm of creation. We also create space for reflection and worship.

In our busy lives, taking time to honor the New Moons can bring us closer to God. It reminds us of His sovereignty over time and creation.

Let us embrace this practice. It can enrich our spiritual journey and strengthen our community.
